But out of everything you need, a dish rack is really a must-have. And they can usually be found for dirt cheap. The alternative is to toss sopping wet dishes up on the counter and hope for the best… I suppose some would just dry them by hand, but psh. No one’s got time for that, least of all a busy Sim! These drying racks have come to The Sims 4 through a few packs, but to really find something nice for your build, custom content is the way to go.
1. Dubnium Dish Rack
Check Out This CC When the goal is placing dishes somewhere to let them air dry, there’s really no need to get fancy. What Wondymoon has here is about as bare bones as it gets. The Dubnium Dish Rack has a simple wire design where dishes can be separated. Set it and forget it is the motto for productive dish washing! The three swatches are white, black, and dark green. This is one object where the appearance isn’t a huge deal… its very existence is appreciated. A Sim’s kitchen can use just about anything to make it feel a little more authentic and setting this next to a sink will be a good start for sure.
2. Ceretonia Dish Drainer
Check Out This CC So this is an unexpected alternative to the classic wire rack. In this creation (again from Wondymoon) there’s a basic tray with pegs to keep plates and glasses upright and separate. A few more designs are included here, such as some great wood tones on top of the standard “kitchen furnishing” palette of black, white, and gray. But it’s nice that this is more compact than many other models, even the dish rack that came with Parenthood. You won’t really have to sacrifice an entire counter to place this – and it’ll easily slip into a diagonal area as well. And since it’s so small this CC would be perfect for single Sims, or couples who don’t go through too many dishes.
3. Plastic & Wooden Dish Racks
Check Out This CC Sets of mass-released CC can seem overwhelming at first, but don’t fret. Even though these racks were released as part of a fan-made stuff pack focused on cleaning the kitchen, everything can be downloaded individually. And first up, there’s the plastic dish rack. This design seems to be the most popular nowadays, presumably because of how easy it is to keep clean. Let’s not talk about the mysterious sludge that builds up if the rack isn’t draining right. It’s not in The Sims and can’t hurt you. What’s cool about this CC is that it’s totally Maxis Match yet it has some new details like separate slots for silverware, plus handles so it’s easily portable. Most of the time it’ll probably stay in the kitchen but this is actually perfect for cleaning up after barbecues or family dinners, too! But of course, that’s not all you get. The creator included a wooden version as well that’s a basic upright, criss-crossing design with six swatches. It’s completely up to you whether these racks are left empty or filled up with dishes. A variety of plates and glasses can also be downloaded and you can arrange them in there as you wish. And if you really want to simulate the dishwashing experience, all of the other must-haves are here, like sponges, dish soap, and towels.
4. Christmas Dish Rack
Check Out This CC Chances are, anyone who loves Christmas also likes to decorate for the holiday. Problem is, the kitchen usually doesn’t see much Christmas cheer – especially in The Sims 4. Seriously, don’t even try the garland thing. It’s best not to not even think about fire while playing this game… Well, here’s one item that’s definitively festive and undoubtedly for the kitchen. Neinahpets recolored another creator’s objects to include the rich greens, reds, and holly patterns we all associate with the most wonderful time of the year. Since they’re recolors, you will need to download the meshes as well (which can be found in the “required” section on the CC page). The dish rack and plates can be downloaded separately from the rest of this set, and they’ll add a lovely splash of Winterfest feels!
5. ArwenKaboom’s Dish Rack
Check Out This CC Here’s the very set that inspired the above Christmas recolors! As adorable as those are, they’ll only be fitting for a few days out of the Sim year. So, assuming your Sims don’t live in the North Pole where it’s basically Christmas year round, the original source material may be what you need the rest of the time. This is a super basic wire rack with extra dishes and silverware in their own little container that you can place within. And for those tidy Sims who don’t like a thing out of place, you can always leave the rack empty.
6. Old Box’s Dish Rack
Check Out This CC In this day and age, it can be easy to forget there’s more to dishware than glass plates, bowls, and glasses. This classy little set will be great décor, especially when placed next to a drink maker. It features all the necessities to have tea the old fashioned way, including a teapot, sugar container, saucers, and cups. They come in several swatches, from country plaid to tiny, cozy floral prints. As for the rack itself, it’s a very thin & wiry type. Also it’s one of the few dish racks that isn’t designed for drying, but storage. This’ll keep these delicate dishes safe and secure.
7. Brohill Dishrack Recolors
Check Out This CC If you have Parenthood then you’re probably very well acquainted with the dish rack that came in it. That’s one item that makes its way into almost every home I build. It’s sturdy-looking, ideal for families, and the swatches aren’t bad. But there can never be enough! And this Simmer added 20 new colors. These more muted tones of brown, blue, and orange will be great for modern and retro homes alike. Even the dishes within will change slightly depending on the swatch. There’s always been a good variety in there, plus all the silverware in the compartments at the end.
8. Kardofe’s Dish Rack
Check Out This CC Without dishes, there’s no need for a rack. It’s just a shame there aren’t really any ways to deviate from the plain white ones Sims use throughout the game. We can always pretend, though. And as your Sim washes their boring, white dishes, you can admire this rack full of vibrant, colorful ones. There’s still an off-white option – but the teal saucers are honestly stunning. I wish there was a way to really integrate them into the game! They’d look nice on so many tables. The third version, with its green leafy design, is also like a breath of fresh air.
9. Branch Dish Rack
Check Out This CC Since there’s nothing simpler or more down to earth than tree branches, it should come as no surprise how often they appear in rustic décor. And Soloriya made this rustic dish rack flawlessly. It really does look like it’s composed entirely of branches. And that’s a nice change of pace from the typical CC we’ve seen here. While this was intended as part of a camping set, I think it’ll look great indoors too. The charming style is great for country homes and cabins – but we’ve never had a ton of content like that for our builds. At long last, the kitchen doesn’t have to be left out – as long as you’re okay with using camping gear as everyday decor. And why not? I think that adds even more charm!
10. Manon Kitchen Drainrack
Check Out This CC If you’re into a minimalist interior then this Manon Kitchen Drainrack is for you. It’s a plain design with just a few white plates lined up within the slots. There’s not much bulk to this either, since it’s mostly open space. But the solid strip comes in several colors including beige, blue, gray, black, and white. You’ll be able to easily slip this into any kitchen. It’s impossible for something as basic as this to clash – which is exactly what makes it so great. Rundown apartments in San Myshuno with more mice than appliances? No one will think twice when they see this on the counter. Colonial mansions filled with vintage furniture? This is so neutral, it’ll fit in with old cabinets and new ones alike. Okay so you get the point. It’s super basic and probably the most versatile dish rack ever.
